when to use zoom?

I got an email from the follower that when to use zoom?

So i'm answering it now.

you might have noticed both pictures.

zoom feature totally depends on the shot.

I want the orange-yellowish color of sunlight so i used zoom.

bad's about zoom: 

1. zoom makes the picture less resolution. 

2. color may vary.
